A Busy Week - Our First Quarter
This was a busy week for us.
Some of our members worked very hard to make our submission to the parliament on the Sexual Offences Act, and our submission to the Planning Institute of Jamaica on the National Poverty Policy green paper; it was the first time that any of us were doing something like this. One of our observers was very helpful with the submissions, especially the Sexual Offences Act.
You may view our submission on the Sexual Offences Act. Our submission on the National Poverty Policy will be uploaded to the site as well, once it is formally made.
3 of our members met with the PNPYO's Policy Commission. We will be working with them to offer constructive critique on the current government's policies, while developing alternative policies where we (LANDS and the PNPYO) see fit. Each participant in the PNPYO's Policy Commission, including 4 members of LANDS, has a specific area of focus.
The Politburo of LANDS will vote on resolutions to clarify aspects of the party's ideology, very soon. The resolutions have already been tabled. We have already added some ideological content to the site; check out the Readings in our Political Education section. After the Politburo passes these resolutions, you will see some of our own writings listed there as well.
This may not seem like a lot, but we are a small organisation that is not even 4 months old yet. A lot of the work and responsibilities are concentrated in a handful of us. When we clear some of the outstanding work from our table, we will arrange a proper public relations campaign to make more persons aware of us, so that we can expand our membership.
