Economic Policy
Our general points on Economic Policy will be determined by our Economic Policy Committee, which was appointed following our November 2023 Party Congress.
Customs
-
In January 2020, we submitted our position on the Customs Act to Parliament. We suggested raising duty-free allowances for shipped goods, setting a general flat duty, and maintaining discounts for key industries and for energy-efficient products. We also suggested discussions on the Common External Tariff through the CARICOM Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).

Minimum Wage
-
In January 2020, we submitted our position on the national minimum wage. We held that a minimum wage should be a livable wage and proposed that budgets be published showing how workers are to live on any minimum wage. We also considered (but did not propose) different minimum wage levels for businesses of different sizes.

We also proposed an electricity market where JPS remaining the monopoly distributor and electricity generators bid to sell to JPS.
